Elizabeth Emmens-Wilson
Exhibition at Samlesbury Hall
april & may
2008
These pieces were inspired by Japanese embroidery, both the imagery of the flowers and wildlife and the texture and colour of the silks.
I used tube-lining and glazes onto porcelain canvases and panels to create textural pictures that are enhanced with the use of lustres and metals to capture the sheen that exotic birds feathers have.
I used recycled fabrics and appliqué overlaid with machine stitching to decorate a set of three canvases.
I painted three separate series of plates-one a set of detailed floral plates using ceramic enamels onto china. The second set was a series of tube-lined plates focusing on repeating patterns and colours and thirdly a set of plates that combine the use of tubeline and glaze to produce a set of graphic floral and animal motifs.
The Exhibition also incorporated digitally produced images both on canvas and on prints that have been abstracted down to repeating patterns whilst still retaining the essence of what the image originally was.
This exhibition in the bridge at Samlesbury Hall, contained both large scale paintings and small detailed porcelain plaques alongside plates mounted on the walls to create a visually striking display.
